Why do I blog

January 26, 2019

I started blogging in 2008, 2012, and 2018. Now it’s 2019, and I’m starting it all over again. There were various reasons why I abandoned all my previous attempts and I doubt that this time will be any different.

This essay is an effort to write down the reasons for this blog to exist, mostly for the records and so I can get back to it in the future.

So, why do I blog?

Crystallize my thoughts

I’d like to have this blog as a place for myself to reflect on trends, ideas, past, and future. An urge to speak publicly will make me understand everything in greater depth and detail.

Practice English

Living in Russia with 70% of the population not speaking English, there are very few options to practice it on a regular basis. Having this blog in English will deliberately force me to use English and will let me speak to a wider audience.

Keep important stuff in one place

I’m making notes in books that I read for the last 10 years. I have lost most of them since then. A myriad of devices, apps, and services led to fragmented highlights and remarks here and there, emails to myself and an Archive list in Workflowy. This blog will help me gather all of those notes in one place.

Share knowledge and spark a discussion

I have a handful of thoughts to share from time to time on such topics as business, health, sports, travel etc. I’d be happy to have meaningful conversations and to help those who have the same struggles.

If you are still reading, there is a good chance you will want to hear from me in the future. Subscribe to the blog using the form below.
